Reederei Erwin Strahlmann e.K. was founded in 1988 by Mr. Erwin Strahlmann. In the beginning he took care of the commercial job for companies of well-known captains. Afterwards Mr. Erwin Strahlmann became unlimited partner and replaced the resigning captains.

Today the company has around 40 employees in the German offices and additionally around 30 employees in the Branch Office in Szczecin, Poland. Together they take care for approximately 60 vessels which carry between 1.700 and 7.800 tons. Ten vessels have time-charter contracts and are employed in worldwide service. The remaining vessels are bulk carriers which are mostly travelling between European ports. These vessels are operated by the chartering brokers Meerpahl & Meyer, Hamburg and Echoship APS, Svendborg in Denmark.

It was decided in 2003 to renewal the fleet and the first new building activity started. In the meantime more than 20 new buildings joined the permanently increasing fleet. The target on intermediate and long term is a durable fleet strength of up to 100 vessels.

With the increasing number of vessels the requirements in daily business will also grow and therefore in autumn 2008 we started to build up a new, modern office building in Brunsbüttel close to the Kiel Canal where all the different departments will be together under one roof. It is ecpected to finish work until middle of 2010.

The Technical Department is managed by the brother of the founder, Mr. Holger Strahlmann in cooperation with the Chief Engineer Mr. Andrzej Subocz. The main activities of this team are executed by the polish location, Reederei Erwin Strahlmann, Branch Office Szczecin, where 80 electricians and technicians take care of all necessary repair works that take place either in the port of Szczecin or during the vessel's voyages in the corresponding load- or discharging ports.

Since September 2008 a cooperation with the Maritime Academy, Szczecin has started to support 20 students per year on scholarship for technical / nautical course of study to provide them the opportunity to carry out their practical education on board of the Company vessels.

The continuation of the business into the next generation is safeguarded by the two sons of the business married couple Ute and Erwin Strahlmann. Christian (born 1987) and Mike (born 1990) have already started their education in shipping companies in Germany and foreign countries. After 6 - 8 years they will return to Reederei Erwin Strahlmann e.K. where they will be finally prepared for their upcoming tasks.
